Charles (Charlie) Victor Erickson

Charles (Charlie) Victor Erickson, 88, of Main Street, Brockway, died on May 13, 2013 at Christ the King Manor in DuBois.
Born August 11, 1924, in Penfield, he was the son of the late Charles V. and Anna Hackett Erickson.
On June 19, 1954 in Tyler Charlie married Mrs. Frances (Pat) Erickson. She survives.
Charlie attended school in Penfield, graduating in 1942. He entered the military in 1943, serving proudly in New Guinea and the Philippines as a member of the United States Army during World War II. Upon his return from military duty, he attended the Pennsylvania State University and Duff’s Business Institute where he earned an associate’s degree in business. Charlie worked as a typing teacher for the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s Training School followed by a 35-year career with Brockway Glass in the transportation department, retiring in 1987.
As a faithful member of St. Tobias Roman Catholic Church, Charlie served as a volunteer bookkeeper, a Catechism instructor, and a Eucharistic minister. Known for his volunteerism, Charlie transported senior citizens to doctor appointments and delivered Meals on Wheels. He volunteered at the Mengle Memorial Library, also serving as treasurer of the library board for many years. Charlie also served on the DuBois Central Catholic School Board. His volunteer efforts were recognized in 2009 when he was awarded Brockway’s Man of the Year.
Charlie is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years; a son, Mr. John (Val) Erickson of Brockway; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Rita (Steve) Brown of DuBois, Mrs. Janice (Jim) Wildnauer of Brockway; Dr. Francie (Dave) Spigelmyer of Cranberry Township. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Ian, Leslie and Rachel Erickson; Maura, Mallory, Meghan, and Matt Brown; John and Suzanne Spigelmyer; and a great granddaughter, Samantha Erickson.
Charlie was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Francis Erickson; a sister, Rita McLaughlin; a nephew, Lee Erickson; a niece, Joan Crawford; and a great nephew, Gary Crawford.
Family and friends will be received from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home in Brockway.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Charles (Charlie) Victor Erickson will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at St. Tobias Church in Brockway with Monsignor Charles Kaza officiating. A Vigil Service will be held at 8:45 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home.
The Parson-Marnati Post #95 of the American Legion will accord full military honors Saturday morning at the cemetery.
Burial will be at St. Tobias Cemetery in Brockway.
Memorial donations may be made to Brockway’s Mengle Memorial Library, to DuBois Central Catholic High School or to the Memory Unit at DuBois Christ the King Manor.
