Charles L. Smith

Charles L. Smith, 89, of 4274 Gardner Hill Rd., Weedville, died on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at DuBois Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
He was born April 22, 1921 in Weedville, a son of the late Cecil and Myrtle Gardner Smith.
On Jan. 2, 1941, he married the late Evelyn Anderson Smith, who preceded him in death on July 2, 2006.
He was a lifelong resident of Weedville and was a member of the Weedville Methodist Church.  He graduated from Weedville High School and served in the U.S. Army during WWII.  He worked as an equipment operator and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
He is survived by a daughter, Mona, Mrs. Russell Fye of Hastings, Fla.; two sons, Ralph Smith and his wife Jean of Weedville, and Tom Smith and his wife Dellene of Weedville; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren
In addition to his parents and his wife of 65 years, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Oliver and Thomas Smith; and four sisters, Anna Davies, Freda Smith, Margaret Jones and Ruth Reynolds.
A funeral service for Charles L. Smith will be held at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home, 151 North Michael St., St. Marys, on Wednesday, March 9 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Timothy Rogers, pastor of Weedville Methodist Church, officiating. A military service will be conducted by the Bennetts Valley Burial Detail.
Burial will follow in the Gardner Hill Cemetery in Weedville.
Visitation will be at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m.
