Chester H. Huth D.D.S., 94, of 400 N. Michael St., St. Marys, died Saturday evening, May 28, 2011 at Elk Regional Health Center following a brief illness.
He was born Sept. 2, 1916, in Gardenville, N.Y., son of the late William A. and Helen Pletscher Huth. On Jan. 29, 1946, in Pittsburgh, he married Marie Jean Schmitt, who survives.
He was a resident of St. Marys since 1962. He attended elementary school in Gardenville, N.Y., and graduated from high school in Buffalo, N.Y. He was also a 1944 graduate of the University of Buffalo School of Dentistry.
Dr. Huth was a member of the St. Mary's Church, served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946, practiced dentistry in Pittsburgh from 1947-1961, and served as director of the 10th District Dental Association. He practiced dentistry in St. Marys from 1962 through 1990 and retired from practice at the end of 1990. Dr. Huth served as director and was an officer of the Eighth District Dental Association, and was an active member and served as president of the medical/dental staff at Elk Regional Health Center.
He had served as director and president of the St. Marys Kiwanis Club, was a longtime member of the St. Marys Country Club, and was a retired member of the St. Marys Board of Health, retiring after 22 years of service. He was a charter member of the St. Marys Shade Tree Commission, retiring from that organization in 2006.
Dr. Huth had been a member of the Singing Dutchmen and various choirs in St. Marys and was an active watercolor and portrait artist.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Barbara J. Hillebrand and her husband Michael of Scott Twp., Pa., Deborah J. Wasserbach and her husband Gregory of Frederick, Md., and Cynthia J. Hays and her husband Rick of Westchester, Calif.; four grandchildren, Megan Hillebrand, Thomas Hillebrand, Leigh Hillebrand and Mary Charlotte Wassenbach; and a sister, Marie H. Basher of Lancaster, N.Y.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gregory J. Huth, on Jan. 20, 1952; and by three brothers, William O. Huth, Edward J. Huth and Norman J. Huth.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Chester H. Huth, D.D.S., will be celebrated in the St. Mary's Church on Wednesday at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Meinrad Lawson, OSB, pastor, as celebrant.
Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m.
