City defends stormwater plan

March 30, 2014

The City of St. Marys continues to defend its stormwater management plan with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
On March 3, the city received a response from the DEP in reference to changes the city submitted as part of the Act 167 stormwater management plan ordinance in September.
City Solicitor Tom Wagner previously stated the city's draft ordinance is different from the Elk County Stormwater Plan, already approved by the DEP, because "it is more liberal in terms of exempting ordinary residential properties and having less stringent requirements on small construction."
Under Act 167 the responsibility ultimately falls on local municipalities and not the county.
