RIDGWAY – The Elk County Solid Waste Authority met Monday in the Courthouse Annex building in Ridgway to discuss the possibility of a new recycling center in St. Marys.
In an effort to get the facility in St. Marys, the authority has to submit a grant proposal to the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
To submit the grant proposal, the authority has to hire an engineer to do the necessary preparatory work. The work includes schematics of the driveways, parking lots and buildings on the premises, among other responsibilities.
The facility, which is still in very early planning stages, is a 20,000 square foot facility. Right now, the authority plans on building a brand new building as opposed to buying a used building to renovate.
