Clark R. Ingram, 89, of Bennetts Valley Highway, Penfield, died Sunday, May 22, 2011 at the home of his son after a lengthy illness.
He was born on September 11, 1921 in Caledonia, son of the late George R. and Hannah (Anderson) Ingram.
On July 29, 1945, he married Eleanor (Gallagher) Ingram, who survives.
He lived all his life in Bennetts Valley and was a graduate of Weedville High School, Class of 1939. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and served as a radioman and a top turret gunner on a B-24 in WWII.Â After being shot down in Italy, he was held in Germany as a POW for 23 months.Â He received the Purple Heart and Distinguished Unit Citation.
He worked as a miner for Gallagher Coal Company and owned and operated trucks, a country store in Caledonia, a farm with beef cattle, school buses and was a strip mine owner. He was active in Free Masonry, was a past Master of Driftwood Lodge 532, and was a member of the Consistory at the Valley of Coudersport, receiving his 60-year pin for service.Â He enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing and trips to a casino.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, George â€śMikeâ€ť Ingram and his wife Pamela of Weedville, Gary C. Ingram and his wife Nancy of Treasure Lake, and Gregory B. Ingram and his fiancĂ© Christine Szymoniak of Penfield; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, with another on the way; and a sister, Edith Mijavic of Warren.
A funeral service for Clark R. Ingram will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home in Penfield, with Pastor Timothy Rogers officiating. Interment will take place at Morningside Cemetery in DuBois.
Military honors will be accorded by the Valley Legion Post 978 Burial Detail.
A Masonic Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. tonight, May 24, at the funeral home. Â
Visitation will take place tonight, Tuesday, May 24, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home in Penfield on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m.
