ST. MARYS - Preparations for the 17th free annual St. Marys Christmas Day Dinner are under way.
The dinner will be held beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 25 in Asbury Hall at the First United Methodist Church, 140 N. St. Marys St., St. Marys. Open to all residents of St. Marys, Fox Township and Jay Township, the dinner is held to allow community residents to spend time together. All are welcome, regardless of age, financial status, and religious denomination, according to Alice Wiesner, one of the event organizers.
“It is for anyone and everyone who wants to spend part of Christmas with other people. Even though the dinner is held at the Methodist church, it is a community event and nondenominational,” Wiesner said.
She said the atmosphere encourages conversation, as the meal is served family-style, and there will also be entertainment and a visit from Santa. Reservations should be made by calling Margie at 787-4659 or Esther at 781-7290. Anyone who is not able to attend the actual event but would like a free meal delivered to them may also call Margie or Esther. Drivers will also be available if someone needs a ride to the dinner.
“If someone is in need of a ride, we will pick you up and drive you to and from the event,” Wiesner said.
