Community Nurses hold annual Butterfly Release
The Community Nurses, Inc. held their third annual Butterfly Release on Sunday afternoon in the Serenity Garden on the campus of the Elk Regional Health Center. The event benefits the organization's hospice program. Throughout the past several years, the event has become a meaningful and healing event for many area residents. A sizeable crowd was on hand for the event which featured a program which included inspirational readings during a celebration of life service, music and a reading of the list of names which the butterflies were purchases in honor and in memory of. Light refreshments were served following the event. The theme of the program "Whisper Your Wish to a Butterfly" stems from a Native American legend which states the Great Spirit created butterflies as a gift to His human children. If anyone wants a wish to come true, they must first capture a butterfly and whisper a wish to it. Since a butterfly cannot make a sound, they can only reveal the wish to the Great Spirit who hears and sees all. The legend goes that by releasing the butterfly, the wish will be taken to the heavens and be granted.
