The Elk County Conservation District [ECCD] was awarded a $1,000 mini-grant from the Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts [PACD] to co-host a Manure Management Workshop with the Cameron County Conservation District.
"PACD is offering mini-grants for districts to host manure workshops, so we decided to take advantage of this opportunity and host a workshop," said Conservation District Manager Steve Putt.
The free workshop will provide farmers the opportunity to sit down with Cameron and Elk County Conservation District officials to learn the new regulations and to assist in writing the plan.
According to the revised Manure Management Manual that went into effect in October 2011, all farms generating/using manure must have a manure management plan.
"The new manual requires every farmer or basically anyone with animals to have a manure management plan," Putt said.
