The inaugural Bavarian Fall Fest, held last year, was a resounding success, and although this year's event is still several months away, the Bavarian Fall Fest Committee is already well into the planning stages for the event, slated for Sept. 23, 24 and 25 in downtown St. Marys.
The committee recently submitted a letter to the city, explaining that they wanted to "get permission before moving forward with any plans." City Manager Dave Greene read the letter to members of city council at their recent meeting and committee member Kim Hoffman was also in attendance in case council had any questions.
According to the committee's letter, they requested that some downtown areas be blocked off for vendors beginning at 8 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 23 to allow for setup. These areas, which will remain in use during the course of the event, are the Diamond area and parking around the Diamond, the municipal parking lot next to Gunners, Market Street from Fox's Pizza down to the old B&R, the parking along Gunners' side of the Boulevard and the grass on the Boulevard."
Greene also informed council that the committee requested that the open container law be waived on Friday, Sept. 23 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 24 from 5 to 9 p.m. in the area of Market Street and the municipal parking lot.
Additionally, the committee requested the use of the St. Marys City Hall parking lot on Saturday, Sept. 24 beginning at 8 a.m. so that a Kids' Zone could be created in that location.
While council members approved the committee's requests, they stressed to area residents that the open container law will only be waived in the designated areas.
