During their meeting on Monday evening, members of city council voted to approve awarding the bid for resurfacing paved roads throughout the city later this year to HRI Inc. of State College in the amount of $911,388.52.
A memo provided to council by Street Superintendent Steve Samick indicated that three companies had submitted bids for the project and the bids were opened at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 14. In addition to HRI, other companies submitting bids were New Enterprise of Tyrone in the amount of $928,313.38, and G.O. Hawbaker of State College in the amount of $977,489.86. In his memo, Samick recommended that HRI be awarded the bid.
City Manager Dave Greene reminded council members that the city borrowed a million dollars last year for the project. He added that the loan will be paid back with funding received through the Liquid Fuels Program.
Councilman Bob Roberts remarked that he was pleased with the bid and noted that since the cost for the project was almost $90,000 less than anticipated, the city might be able to work on some additional roadways as well.
