Members of city council approved sending a letter to the Elk County Commissioners in support of the Downtown Restaurant Project during their meeting on Monday evening.
City manager Dave Greene explained that Matt Quesenberry, of the Elk County Planning Department, recently indicated that a developer has been in contact with him regarding bringing a restaurant to downtown St. Marys.
"There was $3 million available of recovery bonds that was planned for the St. Marys Hospitality and they notified the county and us that they have a hundred percent of the funding in place for that [without needing] the recovery zone bonds," Greene said.
Greene indicated that St. Marys Hospitality turned the $3 million back over to the county and the hope is that it can now be used for the restaurant project.
