St. Marys City Council approved the dates and times for the 2012 Bavarian Fall Fest during their recent meeting.
Bavarian Fall Fest Committee Member Kim Hoffman spoke to Council explaining the event committee's various requests. Food booths are to be set up in the Market Street parking lot, while vendors will be situated along the grassy area of the boulevard and around the Diamond. Festival hours will run from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 21 and Saturday, Sept. 22 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23. Hoffman also inquired about having the city crew assist with cleanup of the Market Street parking lot on Sunday after 5 p.m.
While council approved the general festival, councilman Greg Gebauer voiced his concern about calling out the city crew on Sunday evening in which the city is required to pay them time-and-a-half.
City Manager Dave Greene said the crew must be called out for at least three hours. Greene explained that last year the city crew had to pressure-wash the parking lot due to a food vendor spilling grease and French fries in the lot and not cleaning it up. The lot was closed from 8 a.m. to noon for cleaning and the police had to locate each vehicle owner and have them move their vehicles for the cleaning.
He noted this was an expensive endeavor and was messy as bees had gathered in the area. Hoffman added that the committee hopes to avoid that problem this year.
