Council ponders new budget item for city's anniversary

August 22, 2014

During a recent City Council work session, a proposal was introduced to create a budget line item for the next three years to set aside a small amount of funds to prepare for St. Marys 175th anniversary in 2017.
According to Councilmen Ned Jacob, who suggested the idea, the funds would be utilized to help with any parade, carnival or festival which may take place.
Councilwoman Sally Geyer voiced her complete opposition to the idea.
"That should be up to the committee that is going to do that not up to council in 2014," Geyer said.
Even though a planning committee for the event has not been established, Jacob was seeking council's input on the idea.
