Council pursues receiving oil, gas rights

St. Marys City Council approved for Solicitor Tom Wagner to pursue discussions with the Kaul and Hall Oil and Gas Company in conveying its oil, gas and mineral rights over to the city due to the dissolution of the company by the end of the year.
"They're not exactly sure where some of their rights are. They want us to take them all so that if in the future someone steps forward and says we need to clean up a title to something because there's an outstanding oil and gas interest, there's somebody to go to, to clean up the problem and that would be the city," Wagner said. "On the opposite side of that coin is that if the city owns some rights, then the city stands to benefit economically from those rights."
He said that if council is interested, he wants to carry back a message to the company stating the city is interested and to begin preparation of the paperwork.
