Council releases properties to allow for development
St. Marys City Council this week approved the release of several downtown properties to the St. Marys Redevelopment Authority (RDA) for possible future development and improvement projects.Following the meeting City Manager Dave Greene said the city has an agreement with Impact Pennsylvania, Inc. of Turbotville regarding any development in the redevelopment area of downtown St. Marys. Any projects not done by Impact Pennsylvania must be approved by developer Bob Yoder. Greene explained the agreement between the entities is in place to prevent local business owners or the RDA from repairing, upgrading or renovating buildings which may have been scheduled for demolition as part of another project. "There is no guarantee from the city that these businesses will be getting any grant money or that we are providing any financial assistance for their projects," said Councilman Denny Nero.Nero emphasized council has no fiscal responsibility for the projects, but that they are simply releasing the properties to the RDA because the RDA requested the city obtain approval to do so from Impact Pennsylvania.
