Couple in child-starving case to serve jail time

SMETHPORT – A Mt. Jewett couple accused in a nationally-publicized child-starving case have been sentenced to serve time in the McKean County Jail.
Senior Judge John Cleland of Kane sentenced Mark and Susan Hooper during a 33-minute proceeding Tuesday morning in McKean County Court.
Susan Hooper, 41, was given an aggregate sentence of nine months to 18 months in jail on charges of endangering the welfare of children.
Mark Hooper, 43, was sentenced to three to six months in jail for the same charge. He was granted "work release" status.
