Crusaders defeat Blue Raiders 25-30

The Elk County Catholic cross country teams opened their home season Tuesday by playing host to the Brookville squads.
The Crusaders defeated the Raiders 25-30, while the Lady Raiders did not have enough runners to field a team.
In the girls' race, ECC's Kennedy Weisner placed first with a time of 20:08, followed by her teammate, Victoria Dippold, in second in 21:07.
Ridgway's Rachel Guyer placed third in 22:02, followed by Johnsonburg's Kathryn Polaski, who was fourth in 22:32.
ECC had the next four finishers as Cassie Thompson, Nicole Florio, Allison Prokop, and Ellie Pearson finished in 23:34, 23:49, 24:54, and 25:02, respectively.
Brookville's Hali Olson was ninth in 25:31, and ECC's Kylie Proudfit rounded out the top ten in a time of 25:42.
Also for ECC, Maria Scacchitti finished in 26:06.
Crusader Ryan Detsch won the boys' race with a time of 18:28, followed by his teammate Drew Bille in 19:06. Brookville's Shane Hummel was third in 19:44. Crusader Lucas Knight was fourth in 20:12.
Brookville had the next three finishers as Andrew Douglass, Jon Ossman, and Taylor Ortz finished in 22:13, 22:36, and 23:07, respectively. John Kaul was eighth for ECC in 23:24, followed by Brookville's Clay St. Laurent in 23:32, and Elk's Scott Brazinski in 23:33.
Also for Elk Catholic, Luke Hoffman finished in 24:06.8, and Duncan Lavelle in 25:25.
The ECC squads return to action Saturday when they compete in the Bradford Cross Country Invitational in Bradford.
Junior high meet
The Elk Catholic junior high boys' team lost to Brookville on Tuesday afternoon, and ECC did not field any competitors in the girls' event. The Raiders won 18-41 over the Crusaders.
Brookville's Thrush won the boys' race in 9:14, followed by Ridgway's Aaron Shilk in 9:23. Kunselman was third for Brookville in 9:46. Ridgway's Brandon Kinkead was fourth in 9:49. Brookville's B. Joiner was fifth in 9:51. Ridgway's Luke Guyer was sixth in 9:59, and Brookville's Johnson was seventh in 10:17. ECC took the next three spots as Ben Uberti, Ben Troy, and Matt Dippold finished in 10:20, 10:33, and 10:59, respectively.
Also for ECC, Vincent Thompson finished in 11:29, and Peter Pontzer finished in 13:47.
Brookville's Hummell won the girls' race in 12:16.5. Ridgway's Cassie Cook was second in 12:16.5. Brookville swept the remaining four spots as Drake, Bowser, Gareis, and Friend finished in 17:37, 14:29, 12:58, and 20:48, respectively.
