Curves holding 24-hour event to help find a cure
Curves of St. Marys is inviting the public to a 24-hour event that will help raise funds for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. The fitness center's "Purple Power" Relay team is sponsoring the event and will participate in this summer's annual walk to support funding for cancer research, raise awareness of the disease, honor survivors and remember those who have lost their battle. Peggi Yeager, owner/manager of the fitness center, said the event will run from noon on Friday, March 18 to noon on Friday, March 19. "Every one of us has lost people to cancer. You know, it's a dreadful disease. If there's something we can do to eradicate it, that's great," Yeager said. Lunch will be served on Friday, March 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to anyone in the community who stops in; a $5 donation is requested. Featured activities include movies and popcorn; facials, makeup tips, and demonstrations of products for the face and body; a presentation on posture and relaxation techniques; and 50/50s throughout the day. Area residents will have the opportunity to try the Curves exercise circuit and Zumba, an exercise that features Latin dance moves; enter a salad-eating contest and win a prize; and take chances on over 70 beautiful and interesting items donated by local merchants and individuals for a Chinese auction.
