BENEZETTE – Half a year into his term as Elk County district attorney, Shawn McMahon's office is tasked with prosecuting hundreds of drug-related cases during the year, a trend that he does not see receding in the near future.
"Growing up and living in Elk County, there are many positive aspects to this area but we're also confronted with what I would consider a crisis situation," he said during the Elk Country Multi-County Democratic picnic held Saturday at the Dudley Farm along Winslow Hill Road in Benezette. "My office is prosecuting between 350 to 400 cases per year-- and this year we're looking at around 500-- and most of them are drug related. Law enforcement has to deal with the issue of drugs everyday and they're overwhelmed with the issue of drugs, in particular, bath salts."
