Daniel A. Smith, 64, of 131 Comet Rd., St. Marys, died Thursday evening, Nov. 15, 2012 at his residence following a short illness.
He was born May 17, 1948 in Rochester, N.Y., the son of Duane N. and Charlotte Mattison Smith of Binghamton, N.Y., who survived. On Dec. 20, 1969 in Binghamton, N.Y., he married Pauline J. "P.J." Linehan, who survives.
Mr. Smith had resided in St. Marys since 1984. He graduated from Chenango Valley High School, Binghamton, and received a BS Degree in Chemistry from Clarkson University, Pottsdam, N.Y. He was a member of the Queen of the World Parish. He was a jokester who loved cooking and woodworking.
He was a Vietnam War veteran serving in Germany as a Specialist 4th Class with Battery "C" 3rd Battalion 76th FA USAREUR. He was employed by Auto Zone in St. Marys for 12 years, retiring in 2008. He had worked at Stackpole Carbon Co. for three years.
Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by three children, Andrew Smith at home; Sgt. Margaret Watson and her husband, 1st Sgt. John Watson of Kempner, Texas; James "Mac" Smith and his fiancee Ann Levenduski of St. Marys; two sisters, Jeannette, Mrs. Joseph Fanelli of Syracuse, N.Y., and Amy Smith of Binghamton, N.Y. Also surviving are six step-grandchildren, Jacob, Elania, Emilie, Michael, Maura and Marissa.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Daniel A. Smith will be celebrated Friday, Nov. 30 at Queen of the World Church, with the Rev. Michael Ferrick, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Binghamton, N.Y.
There will be no visitation.
