Daniel A. Smith

Daniel A. Smith, 64, of 131 Comet Rd., St. Marys, died Thursday evening, Nov. 15, 2012, at his residence following a short illness.
He was born May 17, 1948 in Rochester, N.Y., son of Duane N. and Charlotte Mattison Smith.
He married Patricia J. "P.J." Linehan on Dec. 20, 1969 in Binghamton, N.Y., and she survives.
He resided in St. Marys since 1984. He graduated from Chenango Valley High School in Binghamton, N.Y. and received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Clarkson University in Pottsdam, N.Y.
He was a member of Queen of the World Parish. He was a jokester who loved cooking and woodworking.
He was a Vietnam War veteran, serving in Germany as a Specialist 4th Class with Battery "C" 3rd Battalion 76th FA USAREUR.
He was employed by Auto Zone of St. Marys for 12 years, retiring in 2008. He had worked at Stackpole Carbon Co. for three years.
In addition to his parents of Binghamton, N.Y. and wife at home, he is survived by three children, Andrew Smith at home, Sgt. Margaret Watson and her husband, 1st Sgt. John Watson of Kempner, Texas, and James "Mac" Smith and his fianceé Ann Levenduski of St. Marys; step-grandchildren Jacob, Elania, Emilie, Michael, Maura, and Marissa; and two sisters, Jeanette, Mrs. Joseph Fanelli of Syracuse, N.Y., and Amy Smith of Binghamton, N.Y.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Daniel A. Smith will be conducted at Queen of the World Church on Friday, Nov. 30 at 11:30 a.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Michael Ferrick, pastor. Military honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
Interment will be in Binghamton, N.Y.
There will be no visitation.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg.
