Danz sentenced in federal court

May 19, 2014

ERIE – Judge Maurice Cohill sentenced Richard A. Danz, 49, of Matthews, N.C. and formerly of St. Marys, to 46 months in federal prison for embezzling over $400,000 from the Elk County Humane Society during his tenure as volunteer treasurer.
"I want to express a heartfelt apology," Danz said. "I have a capacity to contribute to society and I want to reconcile."
Veronica Conrad, founder of Elk County Humane Society, testified at Monday's sentencing that Danz effectively undid all the work the Humane Society had to do to build themselves up since its founding in Elk County.
