David Ponist, 76, of 947 Hickory Rd., St. Marys, died at his home on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012 surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Feb. 15, 1936 in Coalport, a son of the late Joseph and Frances Smoko Ponist.
On July 2, 1966, in Queen of the World Church, he married Patricia Lecker Ponist, who survives.
Mr. Ponist was a member of Queen of the World Church.Â He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1953-1958.Â He retired from GKN in Emporium after more than 25 years of service.Â He enjoyed watching the Steelers and being at his home.Â Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his two grandchildren.Â
In addition to his wife of more than 46 years, Patricia Lecker Ponist, he is survived by a son, David Ponist and his wife Meri, of White Plains, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Felicks and Flora Ponist; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph, Stephen, Martin and Richard Ponist; and three sisters, Ann Jenkins, Mary Peacock and Helen Birch.
A Mass of Christian Burial for David Ponist will be celebrated at the Queen Of The World Church, 134 Queens Rd., St. Marys, on
Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Michael Ferrick, pastor, as celebrant.Â
Military honors will be conducted by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.Â Â
