Demolition Day

December 12, 2011

Demolition of the the former Mullaney building at the corner of Center and North St. Marys streets began on Monday morning, with workers removing bricks and roofing by hand so as not to endanger any adjacent buildings or utilities before moving in with a crane to pull down the north-facing facade.
The property was purchased at a county sheriff's sale by the St. Marys City Council, which determined the building, located at 43 N. St. Marys St., posed potential liability and as a result began to determine the best route to removing it. While the demolition was expected to be completed within the day, it appears that it will take somewhat longer than initially anticipated. Photo by Colin Deppen
