District 9 soccer playoffs underway

The District 9 soccer playoffs opened Monday night in boys’ Class A, while the girls’ Class A tournament is scheduled to open today.
In Class AA tournaments, the girls’ tournament opens Wednesday with the boys’ tournament set to start Monday, Nov. 1.
In girls’ Class A, Elk County Catholic will host the Brockway Lady Rovers this afternoon at 4 p.m. at Benzinger Park in a quarterfinal match. Also this afternoon, Kane travels to Brookville for a 4 p.m. match. The other quarterfinals are set for Thursday, with Smethport going to DuBois Central for a 4 p.m. match and Curwensville traveling to Karns City for a 5 p.m. match. The dates, times and sites of the semifinals and finals will be announced.
Last night in Class A boys, Kane downed Redbank Valley 7-2 and Brookville beat Port Allegany -2 in overtime. Kane travels to Northern Potter on Thursday for a 4 p.m. match, while Brookville goes to Karns City for a 7 p.m. match on Thursday.
The other two Class A quarterfinal matches will be played Wednesday. Coudersport will travel to ECCHS for a 7 p.m. match at Angela Huey Field in Kersey and Forest will travel to Brockway for a 6 p.m. match.
