Dorothy "Dottie" Gorman, 72, of Carlsbad, Calif., died July 4, 2013 at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego, Calif. after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
She was born June 26, 1941 in Union City, N.J., the youngest daughter of the late Joseph and Helen Kau Gleason.
On April 24, 1965 at St. Veronica's Church in Howell, N.J. she married Patrick Gorman, who was born and raised in St. Marys. She and Patrick resided in Little Silver, N.J. for 34 years until 2002 when they retired to Carlsbad, Calif.
She was a graduate of Jersey City Catholic High School, Class of 1959. She received a business degree from Brookdale College in N.J. in 1977. She was a former employee of the AT&T Government Systems for 23 years. She was a member of the St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Carlsbad, Calif. She enjoyed volunteering at schools, church, and civic events, and was an avid tennis and bridge player. She was also expert at Irish set dancing.
She is survived by two children, Maureen, Mrs. Robert Winter of Encinitas, Calif. and Patrick of Ellicott City, Md.; six grandchildren, Lauren, Ashley, and Dylan Winter and Rayna, Kyra, and Camille Gorman; two sisters, Anne, Mrs. Theodore Heyn of Winter Haven, Fla. and Helen, Mrs. Bryan Rafferty of Pittsburgh. She is also survived by the following sisters-in-law and their spouses: Karen and Tom Laird, Nadine and Bill Carr, Mary Lynn and Jim Smith, Joan and Dale Krieg, all of St. Marys, and Arlene and Sam Gardner of Waterford; and by many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy "Dottie" Gorman will the celebrated at St. Elizabeth Church in Carlsbad, Calif. at a date to be determined with burial at Mission San Luis Ray, Oceanside, Calif.
A Memorial Service for Dorothy "Dottie" Gorman will be held at the Sacred Heart Church in St. Marys at the convenience of the family.
