Patients in Elk, Cameron and McKean counties who often travel to DuBois Regional Medical Center for certain healthcare services will now have a more convenient option with the opening of the St. Marys Community Medical Building. Recently, DRMC formally announced that it will construct a 22,500 square-foot medical facility between CNB Bank and Wal-Mart on the Million Dollar Highway in Fox Township. Site excavation and preparation is underway for the three-story building, which will house up to eight physician practices and include ancillary services such as therapy, imaging and cardiac diagnostics.
"Patients utilizing the services at the St. Marys Community Medical Building will be able to look forward to the same quality and compassionate care as is received at our main campus in DuBois. However, this care will be delivered in a setting that is close to their homes," said DRMC President Raymond A. Graeca.
According to Graeca, the decision was made to branch out to the area because of the steady increase in the number of patients from Elk, Cameron and McKean counties using DRMC services in past years, with more than 36,000 services utilized in 2008, 43,000 in 2009 and 52,000 between July 2009 and June 2010.
"We have a significant number of patients from Elk, McKean and Cameron counties who utilize DRMC services and have already made the choice to drive to DuBois for their healthcare. They come for many reasons, but the majority of patients see specialists such as cardiologists, neurologists, rheumatologists, endocrinologists; or for advanced services provided by The Heart Center or Hahne Regional Cancer Center. We made the choice to build this building in St. Marys so that these patients would have access to some of these same services in a more convenient location," Graeca said. "The Million Dollar Highway is one of the most traveled roads in Elk County and provides easy access and high visibility for our new facility."
Graeca said DRMC already has a psychiatric office in downtown St. Marys, as well as a family practice physician office. It also has several physician offices at Elk Regional Health Center.
"This building will serve a similar purpose as those locations - to house physicians and other health care services needed by our patients," Graeca said.
