Dutch gymnasts finish regular season with win over DuBois Friday

DuBOIS – The St. Marys Area High School gymnastics team finished out their regular season with a 121.6-117.6 win over the DuBois Beavers on Friday evening during a meet held at the DuBois Area High School.
"It was a nice way to finish out the regular season," said St. Marys coach Irene McCandless. "The St. Marys team had a pretty even match-up with DuBois, with the top three awards split pretty evenly between both teams."
Overall, the St. Marys squad earned a vault score of 34.0, 27.225 on the uneven bars, 28.475 on balance beam, and 31.9 on the floor exercises. DuBois recorded a vault score of 33.15, 25.375 on uneven bars, 26.575 on balance beam, and 32.5 on floor exercises.
In the vault, St. Marys Area's Michaela Sorg finished in first place with a score of 8.7. Rounding out the top three were DuBois Area's Kayla Stockdale and Amy Sinclair with scores of 8.6 and 8.55, respectively. Also for St. Marys, Cheyenne Bothun recorded a score of 7.7, Nicole Florio earned an 8.3, and Mackenzie Neureiter and Abby Wittman both had scores of 8.5 In exhibition, Katlyn McCandless earned a score of 7.4, while Marissa Pangallo received a 7.95.
Two of St. Marys' gymnasts placed in the top three in the uneven bars. Abby Wittman was first overall with a score of 7.3. Next was DuBois' Amy Sinclair with a score of 7.15. Michaela Sorg was third for St. Marys, also with a score of 7.15. Also for St. Marys, Madison Quesenberry earned a 5.15, Nicole Florio recorded a 6.375, and Mackenzie Neureiter had a 6.4. In exhibition, Allison Prokop received a score of 2.8 and Cheyenne Bothun had a 4.75.
DuBois' Kayla Stockdale finished in first on the balance beam. St. Marys Area's Mackenzie Neureiter and Nicole Florio rounded out the top three with scores of 7.95 and 7.625, respectively. Other St. Marys scores were Madison Quesenberry 6.05, Abby Wittman 6.85, and Michaela Sorg 5.375. In exhibition, Cheyenne Bothun received a score of 4.75.
Stockdale also took first place in the floor exercises for DuBois. St. Marys gymnasts rounded out the top three, with Michaela Sorg placing second with a score of 8.25 and Abby Wittman and Mackenzie Neureiter tying for third with scores of 8.0. Other St. Marys scores were Jessica Tettis 7.2 and Nicole Florio 7.65. In exhibition, Ashley Krise received a score of 5.25, while Seana Bobenreith scored 6.15.
Mackenzie Neureiter took first place in the all-around for St. Marys with a score of 30.85. Kayla Stockdale was second for DuBois with a score of 30.7. St. Marys' Abby Wittman finished in third place with a score of 30.65. Other St. Marys scores were Nicole Florio 29.95 and Michaela Sorg 29.475.
The St. Marys squad will spend the week preparing for the League Championship meet, which will be hosted by DuBois on Saturday, Feb. 12 at the DuBois Area High School. In addition to St. Marys and DuBois, other participating teams are the Altoona Lady Lions, Bellefonte Red Raiders, and Ridgway Elkers.
