Dutch gymnasts place third at Central PA League Championship Meet

DuBOIS – The St. Marys Area High School gymnastics team placed third at the Central PA League Championship Meet at the DuBois Area High School on Saturday with a score of 119.6. St. Marys was able to snag six top spots in the competition.
Altoona finished in first place with a score of 133.425, followed by Bellefonte 126, St. Marys 119.6, DuBois 115.7, and Ridgway 105.625.
"Although the girls somewhat struggled through the meet, they still performed well and I was happy with the outcome of the meet," said St. Marys coach Irene McCandless.
"I have no complaints. The girls did really well this season. We really could not have asked for anything more from this young team. They had a good season and I am happy with the outcome."
In the vault, Mackenzie Neurieter finished fifth with a score of 8.35 and Abby Wittman was eighth with a score of 8.25. Also for St. Marys, Michaela Sorg recorded a score of 8.15, Nicole Florio 7.9, and Cheyenne Bothun 7.8.
In the uneven bars, Abby Wittman placed ninth with a score of 7.15. Other St. Marys scores were Michaela Sorg 7.05, Nicole Florio 6.8, Mackenzie Neureiter 6.4, and Madison Quesenberry 4.5.
On the balance beam, Mackenzie Neureiter was fourth with a score of 8.175. Also for St. Marys, Nicole Florio received a score of 7.4, Michaela Sorg 6.55, Madison Quesenberry 6.3, and Abby Wittman 4.525.
In the floor exercises, Michaela Sorg placed sixth. Also for St. Marys, Mackenzie Neureiter received a score of 7.9, Nicole Florio 7.85, Abby Wittman 7.05, and Jessica Tettis 7.05.
In the all-around, Mackenzie Neureiter placed sixth with a score of 30.825. Other St. Marys scores were Michaela Sorg 30.075, Nicole Florio 29.95, and Abby Wittman 26.975.
The team is currently preparing for the PA Classic Team and Individual Championship, which will be held in Moon Township this weekend.
"The St. Marys team qualified in the bronze division. They will be up against four other teams: Hanover, DuBois, Ridgway and Central Valley," McCandless said.
Five St. Marys Area gymnasts also qualified for the Individual Championship: Michaela Sorg, all-around, bronze division; Abby Wittman, all-around, silver division; Mackenzie Neureiter, all-around, bronze division; Nicole Florio, all-around, bronze division; and Cheyenne Bothun, vault, bronze division.
