Dutch swimmers 2nd, Lady Dutch 3rd at D9 League meet
The St. Marys Area swimming teams placed second (Dutchmen) and third (Lady Dutch) at the 2011 District Nine League Swimming and Diving championships held at the St. Marys Area High Natatorium on Friday and Saturday.Five teams competed in each of the two divisions (girls' and boys'), with the Clearfield Area High swimmers and divers winning both meets. The Clearfield Bisons won the men's division with a total of 315 points. St. Marys Area finished second with a score of 270, followed by DuBois Area 257, Brookville Area 175 and Bradford Area 150. In the women's division, the Lady Bisons recorded 363 points to finish on top. DuBois Area was second with 291 points, followed by St. Marys Area with 247, Bradford Area with 178 and Brookville area with 119.A total of 14 St. Marys Area swimmers won medals (first, second and third places) or ribbons (fourth, fifth and sixth places) in Saturday's swimming part of the championships.Claiming first-place medals for the Dutchmen was the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Matt Hoffman, Jeffrey Moore, Ryan Struble and Thomas Murmann with their winning time of 1:38.74. They defeated the top-seeded Clearfield team by .4 of a second to win the title.Jeffrey Moore was also a first-place winner in the 500 freestyle event with a time of 5:32.23. Another first-place winner for the Dutchmen was Corey Koss, who won the 100 backstroke event with a time of 59.73.Kylee Proudfit was the only first-place winner for the Lady Dutch as she captured the 100 breaststroke event with a time of 1:15.23. She nosed out teammate Emma Daghir, who finished second with a time of 1:16.66.Finishing with a second-place medal for the Dutchmen was Matt Hoffman in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:58.08.Taking second-place medals for the Lady Dutch was the 200 medley relay team of Brittany Orr, Emma Daghir, Michaela Rupprecht and Kylee Proudfit with a time of 2:04.47. Emma Daghir finished second in the 100 breaststroke event with a time of 1:16.66, and second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 27.23. Brittany Orr was second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:08.23, Steph Buerk second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:12.60, and Megan Barber second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:01.12. The 200 freestyle relay team of Emma Daghir, Steph Buerk, Megan Barber and Kylee Proudfit also finished second with a time of 1:49.91.Winning third-place medals for the Dutch were Alex Renwick in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.24 and the 400 freestyle relay team of Ryan Struble, Matt Hoffman, Jeffrey Moore and Corey Koss with a time of 3:39.57.Taking a third-place medal for the Lady Dutch was the 400 freestyle relay team of Michaela Rupprecht, Megan Barber, Steph Buerk and Brittany Orr with a time of 4:08.06.Taking fourth-place medals for the Dutchmen was the 200 medley relay team of Corey Koss, Alex Renwick, Jeffrey Moore and Thomas Murmann with a time of 1:49.87, and Matt Hoffman in the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.51. Finishing fourth for the Lady Dutch was Megan Barber in the 50 freestyle with a time of 27.94, Brittany Orr in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:15.49, Steph Buerk in the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:12.52 and Melinda Stebich in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:19.02.Fifth-place finishers for the St. Marys teams were Alex Renwick in the 200 IM with a time of 2:19.15, Thomas Murmann in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.02 and the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:10.38, and Kylee Proudfit in the 200 IM with a time of 2:34.35.Finishing in six place for St. Marys Area were Corey Koss in the 200 IM with a time of 2:19.54, Ryan Struble in the 100 freestyle with a time of 55:15, and Michaela Rupprecht in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:13.76.The St. Marys Area swimmers and divers will now prepare for the Regional Tournament (District 6-9) to be held this weekend at Penn State University.
