Dutch tennis team advances to 9-AA team finals

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch tennis team advanced to the District 9-AA team championship match by defeating the Brockway Rovers 4-1 Wednesday afternoon at the SMAHS courts.
The second-seeded Dutchmen will now take on the top-seeded Elk County Catholic Crusaders next Wednesday at a site and time to be announced.
At first singles, Michael Fox of the Dutch defeated Joey Britton 6-0, 6-1.
At second singles, Dutchman Evan Lepovetsky defeated Fabio Fortunato 6-4, 6-1.
At third singles, Brockway’s Alec Bouch defeated D.J. Challingsworth 6-4, 6-1.
SMA’s Dalton Gennocro and Jarrod Lipsey defeated Sam Hawkins and James Matson 6-0, 6-4 at first doubles.
At second doubles, Gary Fledderman and Eric Uhl of the Dutch defeated Jordan Olivio and Jesse Hoover 6-3, 6-1.
In Class AAA, the second-seeded Punxsutawney Chucks will take on the top-seeded DuBois Area Beavers next Wednesday at the DuBois Area High School at a time to be announced.
The District 9 champions in both AA and AAA will enter their respective team tournaments on Tuesday, May 15 at sites and times to be announced. The PIAA championship matches will be held May 18-19 at the Hershey Racquet Club.
