PUNXSUTAWNEY - The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch football team scored 28 second-half points last night as they defeated the Punxsutawney Chucks by a 34-12 score in a KSAC Large School Division contest played at Punxsutawney.
The Dutchmen used the running of Cody Baker and David Aul in the second 24 minutes of play to put the game away. Baker finished the night with 233 yards on 17 carries and three touchdowns. Aul finished the night with 95 yards on four carries.
“We weren’t at our best tonight,” said Dutch coach Joe Schlimm. “Punxsy had an excellent offensive scheme against us, but we found a way to win.”
“David Aul played a tremendous football game tonight,” said Schlimm, noting Aul’s quarterback sneak that went for 83 yards in the fourth quarter.
“Our defense played exceptionally well. They are the reason we were in the football game. Coach Jim McGonnell put a plan together and our defense carried it out.
“We’re excited about being 3-0 and are looking forward to playing Clarion next week.”
Punxsy was led by quarterback Garrett Zimmerman, who threw for 145 yards on an 8-of-20 night.
The Dutch defense allowed the Punxsy running game a net of six positive yards.
