Dutch wrestlers go 3-2 to open season at Greenville Duals

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch wrestling squad opened their 2010-11 season Saturday by competing at the Greenville Duals at the Greenville High School.
The Dutch finished the day with a 3-2 team record. St. Marys started the day by defeating Iroquois 63-6. They then defeated Conneaut Lake by a 37-36 score. The Dutch won the match, which was tied at 36, on Tie Breaker Criteria H which is most points scored first. St. Marys lost to Greenville by a 42-30 score. St. Marys defeated Meadville by a 55-15 score then closed the day with a 58-9 loss to Biglerville.
For the Dutch, Jimmy Antonelli and Sam Miller finished the day with perfect 5-0 record. Antonelli wrestled at 215 pounds while Miller wrestled at 140 pounds.
Going 4-1 on the day for St. Marys were Evan Smith at 119 pounds and Alex Coudriet at 125 pounds. Going 3-1 on the day was freshman Josh Cameroni. Going 3-2 on the day were Trenton Bowers, Allan Gursky and Michael Brennen. Joey McLaughlin went 2-2 and Kevin Hoy went 2-3. Bill Gabor finished the day with a 1-4 record while Kyle Wolfel went 1-3. Darren Lyon finished 0-2 with Alex Geitner and Colby Mahovlich finished with 0-1 records. Mahovlich went 1-0 in junior varsity action as did Alex Feldbauer. Dan Snelick went 0-1 in junior varsity action.
“The team wrestled well today. We have been working real hard and their efforts are really starting to pay off for them,” said Dutch head wrestling coach Dominic Surra.
“Though we have showed some improvement we need to keep getting better to move forward and these young men are up to the challenge. This is a good start to the season and it really gives us something to build off of for the remainder of the year,” added coach Surra.
The Dutch, now 3-2 on the year, will return to action this Friday and Saturday when they take part in the Sheetz Holiday Classic at Penn Cambria High School in Cresson.
