Dutch wrestlers receive two top seeds for AAA tourney

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch wrestlers received two top seeds for Saturday’s District 9 Class AAA individual tournament being held at Clarion University’s Waldo Tippin Gymnasium.Receiving the top seeds were Joe McLaughlin at 189 pounds and Kevin Hoy at 285 pounds.Those receiving second seeds were Evan Smith at 119 pounds and Jimmy Antonelli 215 pounds.Two St. Marys wrestlers received third seeds. They were Alex Coudriet at 125 pounds and Sam Miller at 140 pounds.Receiving fourth seeds were Bill Gabor at 130 pounds, Allan Gursky at 145 pounds and Michael Brennen at 160 pounds.Four Dutch wrestlers received fifth seeds. They were Trenton Bowers at 112 pounds, Darren Lyon at 135 pounds, Alex Feldbauer at 152 pounds and Alex Geitner at 171 pounds.At 112 pounds, Bowers, a senior with a 17-12 record, will meet Joel Bowers, the fourth seed from Punxsutawney, a freshman with a 16-13 record, in the quarterfinals.At 119 pounds, Smith, a junior with a 20-7 record, will meet third seed Luke McMurtrie of Bradford, a junior with a 19-9 record, in the semifinals.At 125 pounds, Coudriet, a sophomore with a 17-13 record, will meet second seed Matt Busatto of DuBois, a senior with an 11-16 record, in the semifinals.At 130 pounds, Gabor, a freshman with a 4-15 record, will meet fifth seed Dylan Zimmerman of DuBois, a sophomore with a 1-9 record, in the quarterfinals.At 135 pounds, Lyons, a senior with a 4-7 record, will meet fourth seed Troy Danver of Clearfield, a senior with a 13-16 record, in the quarterfinals.At 140 pounds, Miller, a junior with a 12-6 record, will meet second seed Andrew Hill of Clearfield, a senior with a 15-12 record, in the semifinals.At 145 pounds, Gursky, a sophomore with an 18-12 record, will meet fifth seed Josh Corignani of Bradford, a sophomore with a 6-18 record, in the quarterfinals.At 152 pounds, Feldbauer, a freshman with a 5-11 record, will meet Cody Lansberry of Clearfield, a junior with a 9-10 record, in the quarterfinals.At 160 pounds, Brennen, a senior with a 14-13 record, will meet fifth seed Cody Hepfer of Clearfield, a junior with a 3-1 record, in the quarterfinals.At 171 pounds, Geitner, a senior with a 4-11 record, will meet Rod Hilfirty of Bradford, a junior with a 6-13 mark, in the quarterfinals.At 189 pounds, McLaughlin, a sophomore with a 19-9 record, received a first-round bye to the semifinals.At 215 pounds, Antonelli, a senior with a 22-7 record, will meet third seed Tyler Titus of Punxsy, a junior with a 6-21 record, in the semifinals.At 285 pounds, Hoy, a senior with a 23-10 record, received a first-round bye to the semifinals.Class AA wrestling begins this Friday at Clarion University, with the preliminary round set for 3 p.m., followed by the quarterfinals and the first and second-round consolations.Class AAA wrestling begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday with the quarterfinals. They will be followed at 10 a.m. by the Class AA semifinals and the third-round consolations. The Class AAA semifinals are scheduled for a noon start, with the AA and AAA semifinals to follow.The AA and AAA consolation finals are scheduled for a 5 p.m. start, with both the AA and AAA finals and parade of champions scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for students per session. For the series, the cost is $15 for adults and $6 for students.The top three wrestlers in each weight class advance to their respective Northwest Regionals, scheduled for March 5 and 6. The Class AAA regional will be held at Altoona while the Class AA regional is set for Sharon High School.
