The Penn Relays Carnival held its high school races on Thursday, April 24. Teams from across the eastern United States took part in the event.
Elk County Catholic High School sophomore runner Kennedy Weisner qualified as one of 14 runners in the high school girls' mile race on Thursday. Weisner placed fifth in the race, running a time of 4:53.71. The race was won by Mary Cain of Bronxville, N.Y., running a 4:39.28. Weisner was the second-place finisher among Pennsylvania runners, finishing behind Angel Piccirillo of Homer Center, who ran a 4:47.90.
Weisner is only the second ECC athlete to compete at the Penn Relays. Megan Dornisch, ECC Class of 2011, competed in the shot put event at the relays in 2011.
