The Elk County Catholic track and field teams opened their seasons Tuesday afternoon by traveling to Punxsutawney where they split with the Chuck squads.
The Lady Crusaders defeated the Lady Chucks 87-63 while the Chucks downed the Crusaders 105-45.
“We had a good outing at Punxsy today,” said ECCHS coach John Schneider.
“It was definitely a learning day as we found out things we are doing well and things we need to work on. We definitely had a positive opening to our season,” said the coach.
“Congratulations to Kennedy Weisner who set a new school record in the 3200 run with a time of 11:11. Kennedy has worked extremely hard and I am predicting that we will see further improvement in that time before the season is over,” added coach Schneider.
The Lady Crusaders were led by triple winner Elizabeth Nicklas who won the shot put, discus and javelin.
Double winners were Victoria Dippold in the 1600 run and 3200 relay, Morgan Onink in the 1600 and 3200 relays, Kirstie Wehler in the 400 dash and 1600 relay, Kennedy Weisner in the 3200 and 800 runs, and Nicole Florio in the high jump and 1600 relay.
Single winners for the Lady Crusaders were Cassie Thompson and Maggie Sorg in the 3200 relay, Abbi Petrosky in the 110 hurdles, Samantha Zimmerman in the 1600 run and Hannah Onink in the pole vault.
For the Crusaders, single winners were Jake Herbstritt in the high jump and the 1600 relay team of Ryan Detsch, Andrew Gebauer, Joe Georgino and Caleb Lecker.
