Photo by Victoria Stanish - Candace L. Eckert recently became the executive director of the St. Marys Area United Way and is making preparations for its upcoming annual fundraising campaign to support charitable organizations in the area encompassed by the St. Marys Area School District.

St. Marys Area United Way Executive Director Candace L. Eckert might be new to the job, but she has been raring to go from day one.
Eckert, who took the position in early April, has been spending time learning the ins and outs of the organization and has set a goal of making as many area residents aware of what the United Way does as possible.
"What I'm hoping to accomplish is to get the United Way out there again. I want to educate people on what the United Way is and what they offer to the community or give back to the community," Eckert said.
"Candy brings a fresh perspective to the United Way. She is very active with school-age children, working as a tutor and a substitute teacher in the St. Marys schools. This is in addition to volunteering her time to numerous community organizations," said St. Marys Area United Way President Becky Piccolo. "Candy thoroughly understands the mission of the United Way and is already leading the organization in new directions to educate the public, mobilize volunteers, and gather the financial support that our member agencies depend on.
"Her enthusiasm for what she does and her organizational skills will lead the St. Marys Area United Way in its efforts to support our community agencies and the people they serve."
