Edna L. Erich Kastner

Edna L. Erich Kastner, 84, of 108 Irishtown Rd., Kersey, died Monday, May 30, 2011, at the Elk Regional Health Center after a brief illness.
She was born June 14, 1926, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Benninger Erich.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1944. She had worked as an assistant cook at the St. Boniface School and had volunteered at the school.
On Nov. 15, 1947, in the St. Mary's Church, she married Donald Kastner, who preceded her in death on Oct. 29, 1973.
Mrs. Kastner was a member of the St. Boniface Church; Rosary Society; Fox Township Senior Center; and the American Legion Auxiliary for the past 45 years, where she served as past president and secretary. She loved crocheting, making afghans for many people; playing cards with her friends; and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters, Marge McDermott (Bob) of Dagus Mines and Doreen (Dee) Schatz (Earl "Whitey") of Kersey; two sons, John (Pape) Kastner (Gloria) of Kersey and Denny Kastner (Jody) of Kersey; six grandchildren, Shawn and Seena Kastner, Yvonne Kastner, Betsy and David Surra, Jennifer McDermott, Rachelle Kastner, and Jason McDermott and his wife, Jennifer; five great-grandchildren, Sierra, Cayden and Jake Kastner, Dilen Surra, and Hailee McDermott; two sisters, Ruth Trumble of St. Marys and Irma Erich of St. Marys; and by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Joe Kastner, on April 6, 1965; a granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn, on Aug. 5, 1985; and a sister, Alice Cassidy.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Edna L. Erich Kastner will be celebrated in the St. Boniface Church on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. James Faluszczak, pastor, officiating.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.
