Edward H. Wilhelm, 87, of 1169 Windfall Road, St. Marys, died on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012 at Select Specialty Hospital in Erie following a brief illness.
He was born Jan. 19, 1926 in St. Marys, a son of the late Edward J. and Anna Breindel Wilhelm.
On Sept. 8, 1951 in Force, he married the late Frances "Babe" Canton Wilhelm, who preceded him in death on March 27, 2011.
Mr. Wilhelm was a member of the St. Mary's Church. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944-1946 during WWII.Â He retired from St. Marys Carbon after many years of service. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially gardening, planting and
landscaping. He was very fond of his beloved pets and he also enjoyed music and was able to play many instruments.Â
Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Â
He is survived by a daughter, Denise, Mrs. Jeffrey Salter of St. Marys; three sons, Edward D. Wilhelm and his wife Judith of St. Marys; Donald Wilhelm and his companion Jane Shuttleworth of Dagus Mines and Dale Wilhelm and his wife Nancy of Kersey; eight grandchildren, David Wilhelm and his wife Jill, Deanna, Mrs. Brian Thompson, E.J. Wilhelm and his wife Jennifer, Brandi Salter, Angelee Herzing and Brittany, Casey and Brent Cousins; seven great-grandchildren, Nina, Wyatt, Owen, Haley, Tiaura, Kienna, and Mason; and a sister, Doris Florio of St. Marys.
In addition to his parents and his wife of nearly 60 years, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Claude and LeRoy Wilhelm; and four sisters, Helen Bucheit, Louise Young, Rita Bucheit and Catherine Kreckel.Â
A memorial service for Edward H. Wilhelm will be held at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home, 151 North Michael St., St. Marys, on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012Â at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Meinrad Lawson, O.S.B., pastor of St. Mary's Church, ofï¬ciating.
Military honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
