Edward R. Flacinski

Edward R. Flacinski, 88, of 103 Clarion Rd., Johnsonburg, died Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
He was born Feb. 29, 1924 in Johnsonburg, son of the late Stanley and Catherine Brzostek Flacinski. He married Shirley Nyquist, who survives, on Oct. 1, 1949 in St. Leo's Roman Catholic Church in Ridgway. He had resided in Johnsonburg all of his life. He graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1942.
He was a member of the Holy Rosary Church, Cursilo, Knights of Columbus, St. Josephs Society, Rolfe Sportsmens Club, Central Hose Company, and served as president of the Johnsonburg Borough Council, and was instrumental in obtaining the property for the Johnsonburg Medical Center.
He served overseas in the U.S. Navy as an AMM2C, with Air Transport Squadron 10, NAS Honolulu, USHN Pearl Harbor T.H. Nas, Nas Honolulu T.H.
He was employed by the Johnsonburg Paper Mill and retired from the PennTech Paper Co. in 1992 following 49 years of service.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Mark Flacinski and his wife Caroline of St. Marys, and Richard "Rich" and his wife Shelli of Hopewell Junction, N.Y.; two daughters, Jean Dixon and husband Robert of St. Marys, and Beth Wendel and husband Richard of McKees Rocks; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Henry Flacinski and his wife Lois of Florida; and one sister, Jennie Hoffman and husband Brownie of Brockway.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Funeral Services for Edward R. Flacinski will be conducted at Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012 at 10 a.m. Officiating will be Rev. David A. Wilson, pastor. Interment will be held at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Johnsonburg. Friends will be received at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening, Aug. 3, 2012.
Military honors will be conducted at the funeral home Saturday morning under the direction of the Johnsonburg-Wilcox Veterans Burial Detail. Members are requested to assemble at the funeral home by 9:15 a.m. Saturday morning.
