Eldred man killed in crash

KEATING TWP. – The Kane-based state police report that a traffic fatality occurred at approximately 5:08 a.m. on Aug. 7 on SR 46, in the area of Coleville Road, Keating Township, McKean County. According to police, a 1995 Ford F150 operated by Joshua Quentin Benjamin, 24, of Eldred, was negotiating a right curve in the roadway when the vehicle traveled south across the double yellow center line, into and across the eastbound lane of traffic and off the south side of the roadway. The Ford then impacted a culvert. Upon impact, the Ford continued west and then impacted a utility pole. The vehicle was redirected/spun counterclockwise north, and came to uncontrolled final rest within the eastbound lane of traffic. Benjamin was reportedly deceased while a passenger in the vehicle, Matthew Christian Irwin, 29, of Bradford, suffered minor injuries. The vehicle sustained disabling damage. Assisting at the scene were CPL Timothy Lencer, TPR Andrew Brothers, Coroner Michael Cahill, Rew VFD, Smethport VFD and Priority First Ambulance. The crash remains under investigation.
