Elk Catholic cross country teams host Brookville, Brockway squads

The Elk County Catholic cross country teams played host to the Brookville and Brockway squads Tuesday afternoon at Benzinger Park.
The Crusaders defeated Brookville 19-38 and Brockway 22-34. Brookville defeated Brockway 26-30.
There was no scoring in the girls’ meet, as Elk Catholic was the only school with a full team.
In the boys’ race, the Crusaders took the first two spots in Ryan Detsch in 18:04 and Drew Bille in 18:21. Brockway’s Dakota Lawson was third in 18:48. Elk’s Lucas Knight placed fourth in 19:24, with Brookville’s Shane Hummel rounding out the top five in 19:51.
Andrew Douglas of Brookville was sixth in 21:16, followed by Morgan Poulous and Hunter Loss of Brockway in 21:42 and 22:11, respectively, for sixth and seventh place. Elk Catholic’s John Kaul and Scott Brazinski rounded out the top 10 in 22:18 and 22:25, respectively.
Elk Catholic’s Luke Hoffman finished in 22:37, while Duncan LaValle crossed the finish line in 24:02.
Elk Catholic’s Kennedy Weisner won the girls’ race with a time of 19:04. She was followed by teammates Victoria Dippold in 20:27, Nicole Florio in 22:34, Cassie Thompson in 23:17, Allie Prokop in 24:49 and Ellie Pearson in 24:52.
Brookville’s Hali Olson was seventh in 25:00 and Brockway’s Celeste Pearce was eighth in 25:23.
Rounding out the top 10 were Elk Catholic’s Kylie Proudfit and Maria Scacchitti in 25:42 and 26:01, respectively.
The Elk Catholic squads return to action on Saturday when they compete in the McQuaid Invitational at Rochester, N.Y.
Junior high meet
In the junior high boys’ meets, Elk Catholic defeated Brockway 27-29 and lost to Brookville 19-41.
Ryan Thrush of Brookville won with a time of 9:03. Brockway’s Adam Sabatose was second in 9:21, followed by Keelin Kunselman and Brody Joyner of Brookville in 9:41 and 9:52, respectively.
Ben Uberti was the first Crusader to cross the finish line as he placed fifth in 9:57. Ben Troy of Elk was sixth in 10:16.
Also for Elk Catholic, Matt Dippold was 11th in 10:45, Vincent Thompson 13th in 11:00 and Peter Pontzer in 13:19 for 19th place.
Kaitlyn Morelli of Brockway won the girls’ race in 10:58. Brookville’s Brooke Hummel and Ruby Garris took second and third in 11:22 and 11:37, respectively. Lakyn Freemer of Brockway was fourth in 11:43 and Logan Bowser of Brookville was fifth in 12:35.
