The Elk County Catholic High School competition cheerleading squad won its third straight District 9 title on Saturday, beating out six other teams in the District 9 Cheerleading Competition held Saturday at Elk County Catholic High School.
The team's victory comes a week after they placed 17th in their division at the National High School Cheerleading Championship, held at the Walt Disney Resort in Orlando, Fla.
"The team was very excited. We just came back from the national competition. We knew that we didn't want to come back to D9 and not follow through with a win there. That would have been disappointing for us," said Elk Catholic cheerleading coach Marlene Stubber. "The girls were very excited to perform their best and they did a nice job out on the mat today."
The squad from Keystone Jr.-Sr. High School placed second in the competition and the team from DuBois Central Catholic High School, last year's runner-up, was third. Other teams from area schools competing in the event were Cameron County, Clarion, Kane and Punxsutawney.
