Elk County Commissioners: No county tax increase
RIDGWAY - County commissioners on Tuesday released an $11.3 million spending plan that features no new taxes highlighted with a 3-percent wage increase for bargaining and non-bargaining county employees."We're very pleased to announce that the 2012 proposed budget will now be on display," said Elk County Commissioner Daniel R. Freeburg. "We're very pleased that there is no tax increase forecast in the numbers. "2011 has continued to be challenging and we appreciate everyone who worked together so hard-- the department heads and elected officials-- we were able to do the budget, the general fund of $11.3 million, and we're able to do a 3-percent wage increase without a tax increase. "Everyone in our office worked very hard to hold the line and Elk County is in good shape. I think being fiscally conservative all these years continues to pay off so we're very grateful to be in this position."The budget will be displayed in the commissioners' office at the Courthouse Annex along Center Street in Ridgway and on the county government's website at www.co.elk.pa.us/.
