Elkland Search and Rescue (SAR) has developed a reputation as the foremost search-and-rescue squad in north central and northwestern Pennsylvania. SAR’s members have worked hard to make it a self-sustaining entity since it was founded in the late 1980s primarily by members of the Camp Owners Association, but said the support of area residents and organizations like the St. Marys Area United Way have enabled it to grow and provide better service to residents in both Pennsylvania and neighboring states.
