Esther J. "Eck" Bickmire, 91, a resident of the Rouse Warren County Home in Youngsville, died there Monday morning, Jan. 31, 2011 after an extended illness.Â
She was born Nov. 5, 1919 in Brockport, daughter of the late Richard and Maude McManigle Brenton.Â On July 12, 1952 at Sacred Heart Church in St. Marys, she married Walter "Wally" Bickmire, who preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 2002.
She had resided in Warren since 1970, moving from Emporium. She was a graduate of a high school in the Brockport area and the Horton Business School.Â She was employed with the Emporium Plant of G.T.E. Sylvania as a secretary.Â Eck was a member of St. Joseph R.C. Church.Â She was an avid bowler, bowling with the women's league at Riverside Lanes, and enjoyed dancing, traveling, flowers, dogs and entertaining. She is remembered by her daughter as a loving mother and devoted wife who loved to be with her friends and family, and always had a quick wit.Â
She is survived by a daughter, Jeannie M. Bickmire of Lancaster; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband of 49 years, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Marshall, Elizabeth Herbstritt, and Violet Cunningham; and a brother, Peter Brenton.Â
A Mass of Christian Burial for Esther J. "Eck" Bickmire will be conducted Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph R.C. Church, with the Rev. Fr. Michael Polinek, parochial vicar, officiating.Â Interment will be in Mt. Church Cemetery, Brockway.Â
Friends may call at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East St. in Warren, on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m., where a vigil service will be conducted at 5:45 p.m.Â
