Eugene W. Sweeney

Eugene W. Sweeney, 90, died Monday, July 11, 2011 after a short illness.
He was born February 20, 1921 to the late Thomas W. and Jane Pick Sweeney in Johnsonburg and attended local schools there.
On February 5, 1946, he married Georgia E. Smith of St. Marys in the St. Mary's Catholic Church.
He worked at the paper mill most of his life and retired in 1984, when he and his wife moved to Dutch Flat, Calif. They lived in California until they moved to Colorado in 2000 to be near their daughter, Edie. Eugene served four years in the service of his country during World War II. He was in the infantry, where he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He then transferred to the Air Corps, where he became a waist gunner. He also served as a Military Policeman until he was honorably discharged.
Surviving are his loving wife of 65 years and their five children, Thomas of Geneva, Fla., Christine Wattson of Newport Beach, Calif., Terese (Terry) Sweeney of Pearland, Texas, Edith (Edie) McNerney of Lakewood, Colo., and Attorney Beth Kuttler of Costa Mesa, Calif. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Richard, Earl and Frederick; and three sisters, Violet Williams, Anita Fitch, and Virginia Verostek; and two sisters in infancy.
A Memorial Mass for Eugene W. Sweeney will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Lakewood, Colo. He will be buried in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
