Local residents will forget casual Friday when there is Fireworks "Fun"draising Friday, taking place June 17 in the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce parking lot as part of an effort to raise funds for St. Marys' annual firework display on July 2 at the St. Marys Golf Club.
From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., patrons are encouraged to drop off firework donations while enjoying a free hot dog, donated by Pfaffs Market, and a beverage, donated by First Commonwealth Bank. Drive-thru donations are also welcome.
Fundraising efforts for this year's fireworks show have already begun. This year's goal is $16,000 and already the Chamber has raised just over $8,500.
"We hope to reach our goal earlier this year and not scramble at the last minute in order to ensure we have the best display for the people of the St. Marys area, " said Paula Weyant, Chamber event coordinator.
The River 98.9 radio station will be broadcasting a live remote seeking donations. Throughout the day, visitors can enter to win several different gift baskets, some filled with gift certificates from area businesses.
