Fundraising continues for the annual Independence Day Celebration hosted by the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce, taking place July 2 at the St. Marys Golf Club. This year's goal is the same as in years past, at $16,000. To date, the Chamber has raised $10,332.
"The Chamber and the fireworks committee works hard every year raising funds for this community event," said Paula Weyant, Chamber events coordinator. "The deadline is coming up quickly. If we do not reach our goal, the display will be reduced to the amount we do receive.”
The Chamber is hoping to reach its goal by Monday to provide ample lead time for Starfire Corp., the Northern Cambria-based fireworks company which has been shooting off the St. Marys show for the past several years.
“Typically, we like to have the money secured by the Monday before the show. The folks who do the show start to pack their stuff on Tuesday to ensure they have everything they need to give us the best display," said Weyant.
"If every citizen gave a few dollars, we would have no trouble reaching the goal. Every dollar helps," Weyant added
